Discount Code Reminder

Discount Code Reminder

Remind visitors about active discount codes that they haven’t redeemed yet in a non-intrusive way.

The Discount Code Reminder is an OptiMonk feature that automatically shows a follow-up campaign to any visitor who received a discount code but has not used it yet. Once a visitor has an active code, the reminder appears on their next page view — you only need to create one reminder campaign and it works across all your discount campaigns automatically. The reminder keeps showing on each new page load until the visitor redeems the code, deliberately closes the reminder, or the campaign's configured time period expires. Note: the feature does not work with gamification templates.

Key benefits

  • One setup, works for all discounts: You only need a single Discount Code Reminder campaign. OptiMonk automatically picks up and shows whichever active code a visitor most recently received — no per-campaign duplication needed.
  • Fully automatic targeting: The reminder only appears for visitors who actually have an unredeemed code, so it never disturbs visitors who have already converted or never received a discount in the first place.
  • Closes automatically on redemption (Shopify): On Shopify stores, the reminder stops showing as soon as the visitor completes a purchase using their code, keeping the shopping experience clean and friction-free.

How it works

Step 1
Create a campaign with a Discount Code element

Any OptiMonk campaign type can become a reminder — build a new one or add a Discount Code element to an existing design, then select the "Reminder" type in the coupon element settings and set a time period.

Step 2
Set the trigger and remove frequency limits

Configure the campaign to fire after X seconds on page load, and remove the default frequency cap so the reminder keeps appearing on each page view until the code is used.

Step 3
OptiMonk handles the rest automatically

Once live, OptiMonk monitors visitor sessions. Any visitor with an active unredeemed code sees the reminder on their next page view — no additional rules or segmentation needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Discount Code Reminder in OptiMonk?+

The Discount Code Reminder is an OptiMonk feature that automatically shows a follow-up campaign to visitors who received a discount code but have not yet redeemed it. It appears on the next page view after the discount was shown, without requiring any additional targeting setup. One reminder campaign covers all active discount codes across your account.

Does the Discount Code Reminder work for all discount types?+

Yes, the reminder works for both fixed discount codes (a shared code like SUMMER10) and automatically generated unique codes. The important caveat is that it does not work with gamification template campaigns.

How does the reminder know which code to show?+

OptiMonk always displays the last active discount code that was shown to a particular visitor. If a visitor received multiple codes from different campaigns, the reminder shows the most recent one that has not yet been redeemed.

When does the Discount Code Reminder stop appearing?+

The reminder stops showing in three scenarios: the visitor deliberately closes the reminder campaign; the visitor redeems the code and completes a purchase (Shopify only); or the campaign's configured time period expires.

Do I need multiple reminder campaigns for different discount campaigns?+

No. A single Discount Code Reminder campaign handles all of your discount campaigns automatically. OptiMonk links the reminder to whichever code a visitor most recently received, so there is no need to create one reminder per discount campaign.
