Fullscreen

Fullscreen

Most attention-grabbing way to deliver a message by covering the entire browser screen.

Fullscreen is an OptiMonk campaign type in which the message covers the visitor's entire browser screen — unlike a standard popup that floats as a smaller window over the page, or a sticky bar that occupies a thin strip at the top or bottom. By filling the complete viewport, a fullscreen campaign eliminates every competing element from the visitor's field of view: no product listings, no navigation menu, no other page content visible behind it. This total visual capture is what makes fullscreen the most attention-commanding format in OptiMonk's campaign type library. It functions like a mini landing page — the entire screen is dedicated to a single message, offer, or opt-in form — but requires no separate URL, no page build, and no developer. Fullscreen campaigns are built and designed in exactly the same drag-and-drop editor as all other OptiMonk campaign types, support the same elements (images, video, forms, countdown timers, discount codes, product recommendations, multi-step pages), and use the same targeting and trigger system. OptiMonk recommends using fullscreen on desktop rather than mobile, where covering the entire screen of a small device risks triggering Google's Chrome Ad Blocking criteria for intrusive interstitials.

Key benefits

  • Total visual attention — zero competing content. A visitor viewing a fullscreen campaign has nothing else on screen to look at. No product images, no promotional banners, no navigation to click away to — the entirety of their visual field is the message you have chosen to show them. This undivided attention produces higher engagement and conversion rates than smaller format campaigns in situations where the message is strong enough to earn the full screen, such as a high-value seasonal promotion, a compelling lead magnet, or a major product launch announcement.
  • Functions as a landing page without building one. Fullscreen campaigns produce the same focused, single-purpose environment as a dedicated landing page — one message, one offer, one action — but without requiring a separate URL, a page builder, a developer, or a redirect. The fullscreen is created entirely in OptiMonk's editor, appears on your existing pages to the visitors and segments you define, and can be live in minutes. For campaigns where the content justifies a full-page experience but a permanent landing page is impractical, fullscreen bridges the gap.
  • Multi-step sequences work especially effectively at full screen. The fullscreen format's immersive nature makes it particularly well suited to multi-step campaigns — where the first page asks a simple YES/NO question or preference and the second page presents the form. Because the visitor's entire visual focus is on the campaign, the step-to-step progression feels natural and contained rather than jarring. Multi-step fullscreen campaigns consistently outperform single-step versions for lead capture and preference collection by reducing the perceived effort of the first interaction.

How it works

Step 1
Create a campaign and choose Fullscreen as the message type

Create a new campaign and select Fullscreen as the message type. In your OptiMonk dashboard, click New campaign. On the campaign selection screen, choose Fullscreen from the message types listed on the left. Browse the available templates — filterable by campaign goal and theme — and select the one that fits your use case. For a large seasonal promotion, a lead capture page, or a high-impact announcement, dedicated fullscreen templates are available with pre-built layouts optimized for the format.

Step 2
Design it in the same drag-and-drop editor

Design your campaign in the same editor used for all other campaign types. Once a template is selected, you land in OptiMonk's standard drag-and-drop editor. All the same elements are available as in popup campaigns: text blocks, images, videos, countdown timers, discount code elements, forms, product recommendation blocks, and buttons. Design the fullscreen to match your brand and offer — for multi-step campaigns, add a second page and configure the YES/NO or preference step on page one and the form on page two.

Step 3
Configure trigger, targeting, devices, and publish

Configure triggers, targeting, and device settings, then publish. In the campaign settings, set your trigger (time delay, exit intent, scroll depth, or click), define your targeting conditions (page URL, visitor type, country, cart rules, etc.), and — importantly — restrict the campaign to desktop only to avoid mobile interstitial issues. Set your frequency rule to control how often the same visitor can see it. Click Next, verify the settings summary, and publish. The fullscreen will appear for qualifying desktop visitors according to your trigger and targeting configuration.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Fullscreen campaign in OptiMonk?+

A Fullscreen campaign is an OptiMonk message type that covers the visitor's entire browser viewport — unlike a standard popup, which appears as a smaller overlay with the page visible behind it. By occupying the full screen, it eliminates all competing visual content and delivers a single focused message with maximum attention impact. Fullscreen campaigns are built in the same editor as all other OptiMonk campaigns, support the same elements, and use the same targeting and trigger system.

When should I use a Fullscreen campaign instead of a standard popup?+

Fullscreen works best for situations where the message is important enough to command the entire page: major seasonal promotions (Black Friday, holiday sales), high-value lead magnets, significant product launches, or any campaign where a standard popup's smaller footprint would undersell the offer. It is also particularly effective for multi-step campaigns where a YES/NO first step leads into an email capture second step, as the immersive format makes the two-step flow feel natural and contained.

Should I use Fullscreen on mobile?+

OptiMonk recommends against using Fullscreen on mobile devices. Google's Chrome Ad Blocking policy — introduced in 2019 — targets intrusive interstitials that cover the main content of mobile pages. A fullscreen campaign on a small mobile screen is likely to meet Google's criteria for a disruptive interstitial, which can result in the campaign being blocked by Chrome. For mobile visitors, a standard popup or sticky bar is the recommended alternative. OptiMonk allows you to restrict any campaign to desktop only in the trigger and device settings.

Can I use multi-step pages in a Fullscreen campaign?+

Yes. The Fullscreen campaign type fully supports multi-step sequences — you can add multiple pages to the campaign in the editor, configure navigation between them with button actions, and create flows such as a YES/NO engagement question on page one followed by an email form on page two. Multi-step fullscreen campaigns are one of the highest-converting formats for email list building because the YES/NO first page reduces initial friction while the full-screen environment keeps the visitor focused throughout.

What is the difference between a Fullscreen campaign and a Popup in OptiMonk?+

Both are overlay campaign types that appear on top of your page content and use the same editor, elements, triggers, and targeting system. The defining difference is coverage: a standard popup appears as a windowed overlay in the center of the page, leaving the surrounding page content partially visible behind a darkened overlay. A fullscreen campaign expands to fill the entire browser viewport, leaving no page content visible at all. This makes fullscreen significantly more attention-commanding and more suitable for high-priority messages, while standard popups are better suited to less disruptive, contextual campaigns.
