Most Popular Products
Track and recommend most popular products based on visits during the last 14 days.
Most Popular Products is an OptiMonk recommendation mode that automatically surfaces your store's most-viewed products to visitors, without any manual product selection or ongoing maintenance. OptiMonk tracks product page views across your entire store and updates the popularity ranking based on the last 14 days of data, so recommendations always reflect current visitor behavior rather than a static, hand-picked list. The feature is part of OptiMonk's Product Element and is available for Shopify and Shoprenter stores. It shows only in-stock products, and if there are not enough eligible products to fill the recommendation at any given time, the popup will not display.
Key benefits
- Always current, zero maintenance: Popularity rankings update continuously based on the last 14 days of real visitor data. You set up the campaign once and the recommendations stay fresh automatically — no manual updates needed when products trend up or fall out of favor.
- Proven social proof built into the recommendation: Showing the most-viewed products communicates implicit social proof: these are what other visitors find most interesting. This framing can increase click-through rates compared to generic or manually curated product lists, especially on high-traffic pages like the homepage or cart.
- Three scoping options for precise relevance: You can pull most popular products from the whole store, from a single specific category you define, or dynamically from whatever category the visitor is currently browsing. This flexibility means the same feature supports both broad and highly targeted recommendation use cases.
How it works
In the OptiMonk campaign editor, click on a Product Element and choose "Most popular" from the General / Mode drop-down. This enables OptiMonk to drive the product selection automatically from view data rather than manual input.
Select one of three options: "Whole store" to show the top products across all categories; "Given category" to always show the most popular products from a specific category you choose; or "Each category page" to dynamically show the top products from whatever category the visitor is currently browsing.
Choose how many products to display (1–5) and publish the campaign. OptiMonk calculates popularity from the previous 14 days of page views and fills the Product Element automatically at each display — always showing in-stock items only.
Frequently asked questions
What is Most Popular Products in OptiMonk?+
Most Popular Products is an OptiMonk recommendation mode that displays your store's most-viewed products inside a popup or embedded content. OptiMonk tracks product page views and ranks products by popularity over a rolling 14-day window. Available for Shopify and Shoprenter stores. Only in-stock products are shown.
How does OptiMonk calculate which products are most popular?+
OptiMonk tracks product page views across your store and ranks products by the total number of views accumulated over the previous 14 days. This rolling window means the ranking reflects recent visitor interest rather than all-time historical data. Rankings update automatically as new page view data comes in.
Can I limit Most Popular Products to a specific category?+
Yes. Within the Most popular mode, you can set the scope to "Whole store" (all products), "Given category" (a specific category you select manually), or "Each category page" (automatically uses the category the visitor is currently browsing).
Does Most Popular Products work on non-Shopify stores?+
The Most popular mode is available for Shopify and Shoprenter stores. On other platforms, product recommendations must be configured manually using the Manual mode.
What happens if there are not enough in-stock products to fill the recommendation?+
If OptiMonk cannot find enough eligible in-stock products to fill all the slots in the Product Element, the popup will not display at all for that visitor. This prevents visitors from seeing partially filled or empty recommendation blocks.
